I'm exploring my new MacBook Pro. I asked Siri "What time is it?" - it told me the time and then said "Happy St. Patrick's Day!"I always get excited when I get a new laptop - a new thing to explore. It certainly feels much faster than the 3-year old laptop it replaced - so much snappier! But I bet 3 years ago, I felt the same way about my now 'old laptop'. I wonder how long it will take […]
In our ADP session today, we had a three-way videoconferencing session with our Owen Sound, Orillia, and Barrie campuses. We've come a long way from the early days of videoconferencing at the college. Sound is so much better now thanks to the hard work of our Media Services department. We also used Zoom for a pairs activity between Owen Sound and Barrie faculty. The Breakout rooms worked like a charm!

I love camera apps! So today I tried Halide. With Halide you can do manual focus, set the ISO, etc. Here's shot of the new N Building at Georgian.I hardly use Halide, but it's a cool app. But I do use Hipstamatic. Here are two shots taken with different lenses and films. If you have not tried Hipstamatic, give it a try! And lastly, one app I've never tried is Photobooth. And just like it suggests, it creates a strip […]

There are a number of neuromyths out there. Here's one of the big ones. Teaching someone in their preferred modality (e.g. auditory) will help them learn. Here's a great blog post from The Learning Scientists. Here's a brief excerpt There is currently no solid evidence from controlled experiments to suggest that this is the case. Furthermore, the ironic thing is that even if learning styles did matter for learning, a better idea would be to teach to students’ dispreferred style...
It's my birthday today! My wonderful friend picked out this birthday card for me (see squirrel with birthday hat and cupcake above). What's significant about it is that I hadn't told her about this blog and its name. So any doubts I had about the name I had chosen for the blog has now vanished. And to those who played along and helped me choose a name for the blog - a big thank you! It was a close vote between Rocket […]
