I have the opportunity to hear Simon Bates discuss the theoretical framework underpinning Laurentian’s approach to faculty development. We opened by looking at the barriers to empowerment. The barriers to empowering educators shared here were similar to ones he has seen at other institutions, I see at mine, and were shared at TESS. the notes below are not a summary of his talk as it is similar to the video at the bottom of this post. Instead, I share my […]
Simon Bates at TESS / Photo by Laura Killam As a participant in the first and many subsequent bits and pieces of Ontario Extend it was inspiring to hear from Simon Bates about the development of the framework we extenders and Hubbers (what I call users of our Hub) have come to recognize. I use it in my daily practice and admire what was developed through the openness and collaboration of these giants in educational excellence. Better yet, his talk […]
While at TESS 2018 David Porter challenged me to think of ways to make Extend more relevant to faculty building an Academic Dossier. Before I delve into earning my final two badges I need to become more familiar with what exactly goes into a dossier. Awesome. I also got to talk to @dendroglyph about your ideas. He challenged me to map what I would (or have) added to my CV from extend. — Laura Killam (@NurseKillam) November 13, 2018 The […]
Part 1: Breaking Down the Model (find these bits and bytes below) Part 2: Morphing it for Mohawk (or any other post-secondary institution) Part 3: Think Throughs: Supporting documents used in course design and development intensives Welcome to Part 3! Here are a collection of docs and resources that might assist faculty as they actually sit down to map out the design and development of courses. Mohawk College had a massive (and speedy) move to blended delivery. Therefore, the resources […]
Hey Extenders! I said I would share some basic course design and development information with Kimberley. It might be valuable to others as well. Please consider these three parts the share. It is foundational information for faculty new to course design and development. They could peruse this information before meeting to actually start the D&D process. For the more independent folks, there are built in links to other, more in-depth resources e.g., LMS Open Offering that could be worked through […]
Quality Course Components Created and Curated Collaboratively Part 1: Breaking Down the Model (Go back and read here.) Part 2: Morphing it for Mohawk (or any other post-secondary institution). Keep reading here. Part 3: Supporting documents to assist with work post-intro reading a.k.a. Parts 1 and 2. Stay tuned – ETA is August 21st! Different educational environments provide different opportunities for educators to analyze their students. For instance, K-8 teachers have far more contact time with students and have more […]
Our final few hours of Extend2017 and we are up and running with our domains. Now that the behind the scenes is tickety boo, we are working on the front facing stuff. First up, the blog or my musings. The last blog I did was for our alt movie group. Pardon me if I lapse back into film-ease. I will try to keep this more edu-focused. I and my 30+ colleagues from the North have had a jam packed few […]
We launched the Ontario extend project this week with ten northern Ontario institutions, their faculty and instructional support staff. We’re moving forward with a self-directed + collaborative program to invite northern educators to engage with an concept called the Anatomy of 21st Century Educators.
