9X9X25 Challenge, Extender Blogs, North Cohort, West Cohort

Will you accept the challenge? Calling all #9x9x25 video creators!

Yesterday two key things happened: I made a challenge and accepted it. The Presentation Jeff, Jess, and I hosted a professional development double-dip that turned into more of a unique presentation to faculty than we thought. In preparation for Online Learning 2018, we piloted a 15 minute Easy DIY Video Success Strategies session for faculty. After the session, we sought faculty feedback and re-designed the session. It was a happy coincidence that this session was also a perfect follow up for […]

Open Media: Using audio and video as part of open teaching practice with @Cambrian_Jess @hj_dewaard and @eCampusOntario #OEFellow

Today I was excited to be part of the first of five webinars by eCampusOntario’s Open Fellows. It was exciting to see so many people engaged in the chat! They were so engaged I couldn’t keep up. We hope that we have inspired our audience to give audio or video a try in their teaching. We all believe that the use of audio or video helps to meet the needs of learners, makes you seem human and helps to build […]

Zen by PowerPoint

I have a love/hate relationship with PowerPoint (PP). I see value in the medium but I struggle to find effective ways to use it. #Oext234 asks Ontario Extenders to consider PresentationZen and to pick one of the 11 recommendations to improve presentations. I am choosing (5) Remove the nonessential and adding photos instead of text. Please understand, this is an exercise for the Daily Extend. I am not suggesting that the new presentation is really much better than the old one […]

How @YouTube can Expand Presentation Opportunities: Looking Back to #FoL18 with @draggin and @jozbfz

I was updating my CV and realized I had not blogged about the amazing experience I had presenting virtually at the BC Festival of learning. What a shame! Tweets just aren’t enough to express my gratitude for this experience. It was a great experience. I recommend it. Thanks for attending and including me in the #FoL18 discussion. https://t.co/D2oVul7ZCC — Laura Killam (@NurseKillam) May 31, 2018   My co-presenters Jason Toal and Jon Fulton made this possible. One of the great things […]

Cambrian Open Day: What is Next? #OpenDayCambrian @eCampusOntario #OEFellows

Today we started a conversation. The day opened with an all-stakeholder session that was attended by people from a variety of departments at Cambrian. Then, faculty retreated to the hub to do a deep-dive into various areas of openness. Information was shared, engaging questions were asked, and new ideas began to form in the room. A wonderful way to start the #oep conversation at @cambriancollege Thank you to faculty and planners for support. #opendaycambrian @cambrianhub @Cambrian_Jess @MarnieSeal @CambrianLibrary @melyoung00 @eCampusOntario […]

Creative uses of YouTube: Discussing ways to make Video Work #AdvLearn2018

At Advancing Learning, I was able to connect with educators interested in leveraging video in their classroom. This presentation was more discussion based than the last one. Today I briefly introduced myself and answered questions of the audience using the website below as a reference. Presentation: Click Here. Sched Listing: Click Here. geralt / Pixabay I hope that participants were inspired to give video creation a try. The discussion was engaging. Some questions I was able to address based on my experience. Other […]

Buy-in for Badging: Strategies for Success and Fun #AdvLearn2018

Katherine and I reflected on our experience with badging in the inspire presentation format at the Advancing Learning conference at Fanshawe College. We shared our game design, successes, failures, and lessons learned. For some participants, gamification was a new concept. The idea of rewarding students for a job well-done changes the mindset of students and educators. Typically we expect students to do a lot of work in preparation for a class that is not acknowledged. Acknowledging the effort that goes into coursework that is not marked feels […]

Panel: Use of Open Educational Practices (OEP) and Resources (OER) in Ontario

As one of the fellows who shared what a profound impact eCampusOntario is having on our work in today’s panel, I wanted to invite everyone to take a closer look at how you can become involved with eCampusOntario. There are opportunities to engage with them in many formats as little or as much as you want to. #CNIE2018Sudbury: Five of our @eCampusOntario #OEFellows begin this afternoon’s panel discussion, “Use of Open Educational Practices and Resources in Ontario.” #CNIE2018 #RCIE2018 pic.twitter.com/EhF79Fc8GR — […]

Creating Connections For Learning Through YouTube

@NurseKillam and @JessicaOReill17 on using video in instruction #CNIE2018Sudbury pic.twitter.com/yFTzIchnbr — Diane P. Janes, PhD (@Diane_Janes) May 16, 2018 Jessica and I presented about ways YouTube can be used in education to enhance student learning. We heard from the audience and even live streamed the session with the support of Extron Electronics (an event sponsor). The “slides” are actually a website, which is designed to be an open resource that I will continue to add to. We encourage you to […]
